A long time ago, there was a handsome and strong young man. His name was Awang Sukma. Awang Sukma roamed down to the middle of the jungle. He was amazed seeing various kinds of the forest lives. He built a tree house in a branch of the very big tree. The life in the forest was harmonious and peaceful.

After for a long time lived in the forest, Awang Sukma was then appointed as the lord of the area by the people who lived in surrounding and given the title of Datu*. Once in a month, Awang Sukma went round the area of his authority. One day he stopped in a clear lake. This lake was located under the shady, full of fruits tree. Birds and insects were chirping.

"Hmm, what a beautiful lake! I just realized that this forest is so beautiful," Datu Awang Sukma said to himself.

The next day, when Datu Awang Sukma was blowing his flute, he heard the noisy sound in the lake. In heap gaps of stones, Datu Awang Sukma witnessed seven pretty girls who were playing on the lake.

"Are they fairies?" Thought Awang Sukma. Those seven pretty girls who actually were fairies did not realize if they were being watched. Their flying shawls were widespread around the lake. One of the shawls was located near Awang Sukma.

"Oh, this is my great opportunity to get the flying shawl and keep it in the tree. Let's see what happens," muttered Datu Awang Sukma. Hearing the foliage sound of Datu Awang Sukma's, those fairies immediately took their shawls. But one of the fairies could not find her shawl. She was then left by her six sisters.

At that time, Datu Awang Sukma immediately showed up from his hideout.

"Don't be afraid princess, my name is Awang Sukma and I will help you if you would stay with me," Datu Awang Sukma persuaded. Putri Bungsu**, the beautiful fairy, was still hesitant accepting the offer of Datu Awang Sukma. However because of not having anyone on earth, there was no other way for her except accepting the offer.

Datu Awang Sukma really admired the beauty of the fairy, and so did the fairy. She felt happy being near a handsome and courageous person. Finally they decided to get married.

A year later born a pretty baby girl and they named her Kumalasari. The life of Datu Awang Sukma and Putri Bungsu were very happy. But, one day a black feathered chicken rose onto the barn and scraped rice on the surface of the barn. Putri Bungsu tried to scare it away when suddenly her eyes stared at a bamboo rack lied near the chicken.

"What is that?" She opened it and was startled. "This is my shawl!" Putri Bungsu found her flying shawl that kept by Datu Awang Sukma for all this time. She held it like she would never let it go again. She realized that evidently her husband was the one who hide her flying shawl. There was hurt in her heart, but she still loved her husband.

Finally Putri Bungsu decided to return to nirvana where she belonged. Putri Bungsu put her shawl on and by carrying her baby, she was ready to fly. Datu Awang Sukma was stunned seeing his wife preparing herself to leave him. He apologized for hiding the shawl. But Awang Sukma realized that he could not stop Putri Bungsu from leaving him.

"My husband, I leave our daughter here with you," said Putri Bungsu to Datu Awang Sukma.

"If she yearns for me, take seven candlenut seeds, and put into the basket. Shake it while you are playing flute. I will come to meet her," said Putri Bungsu when putting the shawl on and slowly flew to the sky. Datu Awang Sukma sadly staring at her and swore to forbid his descendants to raise black  feathered chicken as he was convinced that it would bring bad luck.
