A long time ago there was a king who had ten adorable pretty daughters. The king was known as the wise king. But he was too busy ruling the kingdom and apparently not able to educate his daughters properly. His wife had died when giving birth to her youngest daughter. It was why that all his daughters were taken care of by foster-mothers. King's daughters grew as spoilt and naughty. They liked playing at the lake near the palace and never studying nor helping their father. Disputes often happened around them. The ten princesses were named by the name of colors. The eldest princess named as Jambon (Pink). The other princesses were Jingga (Violet), Nila (Indigo), Hijau (Green), Kelabu (Grey), Oranye (Orange), Merah Merona (Blushing Red) and the youngest was Kuning (Yellow). The dresses that they wore were also the same color as their names. In this way, the king who was already old could recognize them from the color of their dresses. Despite their similar beauty, Princess Kuning somewhat different. She was not spoilt and naughty. She was also always cheerful and friendly to whomever. She more liked going out with her foster mother than her elder sisters.
One day, the king would travel to a far away land. He gathered all of his daughters. "I will go to the far away land and it might take me long time there. Now what souvenirs you all want me to bring back for you?" asked the king. "I want expensive jewelries," said Princess Jambon. "I want sparkling silk cloth," said Princess Violet. All the nine princesses were asking for very expensive souvenirs. But Princess Kuning only thought for a moment and then held her father's arms, "Father, I only want you to come back safely." Her sisters laughed and ridiculed her. "My daughter Kuning, it's really kind words of you. Of course I will come back safely and I will bring you a beautiful souvenir," said the king. After that he then left. While the king's absence, the princesses were even more naughty and lazy. They often snapped the foster mothers and ordered the palace servants cruelly. Due to following the fussy princesses' orders, the servants didn't have enough time to clean the palace garden. Princess Kuning was very sad seeing her sisters doing all this. The palace garden was the king's favorite place in the palace. Without hesitation, Princess Kuning took the broom and began sweeping the garden. The foster mother had forbid her to sweep but Princess Kuning kept on sweeping. Her sisters laughed out loud seeing Princess Kuning sweeping, "Look! Apparently we have new servant," one of them said, "Hey servant, there's still dirty!" the other one littering and pointed it telling Princess Kuning to sweep. The tidy swept palace garden began to mess again. Princess Kuning stayed silent and swept it. She could feel how suffered the servants in fulfilling her sisters' orders. After that, the naughty princesses left her to their favorite lake. It happened repeatedly until the king arrived to the palace. He saw the nine princesses were playing at the lake while Princess Kuning was arranging flowers at the palace terace. Seeing this, the king became sad. "My dear daughter Kuning, I can only bring you this green stone necklace. I know it's not the color you like but it's the only I have for you." In fact, the king had searched a yellow stone necklace in every country, but he never found it. "It's alright father, green stone is great. Look, it looks fit with my yellow dress," said Princess Kuning. "The most important to me is that you have come home safely. I'll make you a cup of tea." While she was making a cup of tea, the other princesses were coming to the king and busy asking for their souvenirs. But when Princess Hijau saw the necklace worn by Princess Kuning, she got jealous. "Hey Kuning, what a beautiful necklace you're wearing. It's supposed to be mine, because I am the Princess Green!" "Father gave it to me, not you," Princess Kuning replied. Princess Hijau was getting angry hearing that. She looked for her other sisters and defamed Princess Kuning. "The green necklace is mine. She took it from father's pocket. We must give her a lesson!" Then they agreed to take the necklace back and give it to Princess Hijau. Soon, when they met Princess Kuning, they grabbed her and punched on the head. But unfortunately the hit was so hard. Princess Kuning fell and died. "Oh, how come this happens?" they became sad and worried. "We have to bury her!" Princess Violet suggested. Then they together buried Princess Kuning in the palace garden. Princess Hijau also buried the green stone necklace, since she didn't want it anymore. The king wondered where Princess Kuning was. He couldn't find her anywhere and nobody knew either. He became angry, "Hey all my guards, look and find my daughter Princess Kuning!" He yelled. But she never found. The king was so sad. "I'm the worst father in the world," he said to himself. "I'll send my daughters to study in the far away land to learn about manners. Then he sent them to the far away land. One day the king walking around in the palace garden, his favorite place in the palace. In his reflective minded, he saw a beautiful plant grew on the grave of Princess Kuning. "What plant is this? The stem looks like a princess robe, the leaf is glossy rounded...resembles a green stone necklace, the flower is pale yellow and very fragrant! This plant reminds me of my Princess Kuning. Well, I will name it Kemuning*!" The king was very amazed. Since that time, Kemuning flower got its name. People usually use it to make hair fragrant.
