That day was very hot with the sun shone swelter. But the Mouse Deer didn't bother it. he was sound asleep under a shady tree. Suddenly his sleep interrupted.

"Help! help!" loud scream repeatedly heard. Then the sound of animals running followed.

"What's happened?" Mouse Deer asked curiously to himslef. His eyes blinked, heavy to be opened. Apparently he was still sleepy. In the distance a herd of running animals headed to him.

"Fire! fire!" shouted the Goat, "...run for your life, Mouse Deer! There's fire in the forest!" The thick smoke soared to the space. The frightened Mouse Deer saw it and at once ran following all the animals. He was so fast. Yes, although the Mouse Deer had a small body, but he could run fast. The Mouse Deer ran faster leaving all the animals behind.

"Gosh, my breath is so heavy," Mouse Deer stopped with the panting breath, and then sat on the safer place.

"Now, where are the other animals?" although Mouse Deer was happy because of slipping away from the danger, suddenly he felt freightened. "Oh, where am I now? I've never been here before." Mouse Deer went while observing the surrounding area.

"Oops, I'm lost...alone," he increasingly freightened and confused, "God help me..."

The Mouse Deer continued to go exploring the forest that he had never been passed through. Then he arrived at the edge of the forest. He saw a field of Mr. Farmer.

"The field of fruits and vegetables? Oh how lucky I am. Thank you God," Mouse Deer's eyes kept on staring at the field joyfully. The field was full of vegetables and fruits ready to be harvested. "Wow, this is great! It makes me so thirsty and hungry" said Mouse Deer gulped.

In an innocent manner, Mouse Deer devoured those vegetables and fruits available in the field.

"So delicious," he said while drying his full stomach, "If only there was party like this every day, it must be so cool." Mouse Deer then fell asleep under a shady tree.

The morning after when he woke up, Mouse Deer felt hungry again. "This time I will eat my favorite vegetable, cucumber."

The he walked around in the wide field of Mr. Farmer and suddenly he jumped gladly. "Wow, this is what I'm looking for!" said Mouse Deer after he found the cucumbes on the field. He then ate them.

Mr. Farmer was so surprised finding his field was messy.

"Who did this mess?" asked Mr. Farmer to himself. He immediately tidy up his messy field the whole day. Mouse Deer observed Mr. Farmer from behind the bushes. He never met humans before, but he was sure that he saw Mr. Farmer that he heard a lot from his friends.

In the evening Mr. Farmer finally went home, leaving his field without knowing that Mouse Deer was ready to eat more those cucumbers.

"Aha, finally it's party time!" Mouse Deer wlaked to the field and ate more cucumbers.

The day after, Mr. Farmer was very angry seeing his field was messy again. "Enough! It's too far!" said Mr. Farmer. He down on his knees to find out the trace of the thief, "The thief must be an animal," he concluded.

He planned to catch the thief animal, "I have to make a trap to catch the thief." At home he made a scarecrow from hays covered with his cloth. He added jackfruit sap on all over it. It was very sticky and nothing can easily free from it.

Mr. Farmer went back to his field and put the scarecrow right in the cucumber field. "I think Mr. Farmer brings his friend to help him working now," thought Mouse Deer while looking at the scarecrow. "But why is he not moving? Why Mr. Farmer leaves him alone there?" Mouse Deer kept asing to himslef. He sat behind the bushes and wait for the scarecrow to leave. But it never left.

"Ok, I'm hungry and I can't stand it only staying here waiting him to leave the field. I better go there and admit that I'm the one who stole Mr. Farmer's cucumbers. Well, who knows he gives me cucumbers for free." Mouse Deer decided to show up.

"I am sorry sir. I stole Mr. Farmer's cucumbers," admitted Mouse Deer to the scarecrow. Of course the scarecrow stayed still and silent. "Are you angry Mister? Why don't you answer me?"

Tired of waiting for apology, Mouse Deer put his right foot to the scarecrow to make it respond him and give him apology. But his foot was adhered to the scarecrow and couldn't be moved. He pushed the scarecrow with his left foot, but it was even worse. He kept trying with his back feet but it was useless. He was totally trapped.

In the evening, Mr. Farmer came to his field and found Mouse Deer trapped to the scarecrow.

"There you are, little ugly mouse deer," Mr. Farmer laughed happily. He freed the Mouse Deer from the sticky scarecrow and brought him home. At home Mr. Farmer had his wife to make sate* spice. Mouse Deer was really scared that he was probably going to be cooked for the family's meal tonight.

He introduced himself to Doggy, Mr. Farmer's pet dog who sat next to him, as Mr. Farmer's new pet.

"Don't you know Doggy, Mr. Farmer is going to bring me to the Village Chief's party tonight with him. We'll be having so many meals there. Isn't that cool Doggy?"

Doggy didn't believe what he just heard. How come Mr. Farmer chose the new pet to accompany him to the party and not him, the proven loyal family pet.

"But don't worry Doggy," whispered Mouse Deer, "If you would like to replace me to the party, come untight me and stay here until Mr. Farmer pick you up." Gladly this poor dog agreed and freed Mouse Deer out. Mouse Deer and then tightened Doggy up while once more whispering to Doggy's ear, "Thank you Doggy, sorry I have fooled you. Say hi to Mr. Farmer and tell him my apology for his cucumbers...bye!" Poor Doggy could only saw Mouse Deer gladly running away to the forest.
